Finally graduated from Linc

I started learning LINC Home Study, a free, online English study program sponsored by Canadian governments for newcomers, three years and a quarter ago. A very nice instructor would call me with Whatsapp and Skype half an hour once a week to take classes. I'm very lucky to have joined the program which provided me with a systematic way to enhance listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities together. This morning, I finally got my graduate certificate with 4 eights(comparable to IELTs 8).
Before my departure to China two years ago, I told my instructor I might not continue to study because I would go back to China in the future years (which might be against the policy of the program). She encouraged me to continue for not being in Canada wouldn't be a problem since several of her other students were studying in Japan, Korean and Russia. Then I didn't give up and finally graduate today . So I really appreciated my instructor, who is very responsible for my study and gave me so many helps. She not only taught me the materials on LINC's website, but also gave me numerous other resources to study: TED Talks, YouTube videos and even IELTS exams with various of topics, such as AI, ChatGpt, history, biography of great people, medicals. She corrected my pronunciations and homework very patiently. And I really enjoyed the small talk with her at the beginning of every class. At first, the talk would be about 3 minutes. But with the advance of my degree, the time increased to from 15 to 20 minutes and the topics became broader and broader, like Canada's and China's economies and real estate markets, the pandemic in Canada and China, how to refurbish my house, my recent work, and more.

Winning a Lottery
作者:leon 日期:2022-11-09
Jack won a big lottery prize of $10 million 3 years ago. He had imagined various scenarios to make a huge fortune, but winning a lottery was ranked the last in his fantasies. This was truly lady luck paid a visit. He still remembered the moment when he got the good news. He was repairing a luxury car for his customer in a 4S store. At first, he was too shocked to grasp his wrench, but then he started smiling like a fool to his colleagues.
He and his wife decided to say good riddance to their past boring life style in a flash. They both quit their jobs the next day. Then, they made a very long to-do list: Buying a luxury apartment, shopping every day, traveling around the world, having plastic surgeries, etc. It seemed that they would be in a whirlwind of activity in the following years.
惊呆!大佬们每天这么早起床!看完你还想成为大佬吗?-attached is my comment.

Leon: I really don't recommend everyone to copy these great guys and simply follow this so called successful experience because for average people you should take care of your health, maintain warm atmosphere in your family and support your family as well.
As the old saying goes, "no pains, no gains". However, it is not necessary that every effort will get paid off. There are so many elements that contribute to a huge success, like grasping a good opportunity, meeting an important guy coincidentally who is very powerful, having an excellent team or being a rich second generation etc. Just working hard may never make you success. Apart from working hard, you need to work cleverly, meet new people to create your own social networks and share ideas with other people to generate creativity. In my opinion, just working hard and working blindly probably could hardly ever lead you to any success. Do not to be misguided easily by this type of article. I mean, these successful business men could make a lot of efforts, more than just on physical side. So diligence is necessary but not enough.
Anyway, different people harbor different concepts about how to define success. In recent decades the most widespread idea about success in China is to make as much money as possible. As almost everyone has seen, the wrong idea has led incredibly horrible influence among Chinese people.

CRIMES ARE AROUND US AT ANY TIME ANYWhere

The topic of today's English class was about EMERGENCY. My teacher shared an astonishing experience happened to her just last week. When she went back home and walked in the lobby of the apartment at midnight, a man suddenly appeared, grabbed her neck from behind and hit her head towards the wall. Then he tried to rape her. But this time the criminal selected the wrong target because my teacher was very strong and tall. Obviously he underestimated the power and determination of my teacher as well. Soon my teacher started shouting for help and beating back. As the guy had a guilty conscience and feared to be caught by the police, he couldn’t defend the attack from my teacher. Finally the criminal robbed her IPhone and ran away quickly.
I asked my teacher if she called the police later, she told me she didn’t, just because it was very dark in the lobby so she couldn’t see the criminal’s face clearly and there was no monitoring camera in the lobby either. However, the main reason was she couldn’t speak Chinese well. Fortunately the bad guy didn’t carry any weapons such as a knife, gun or something, otherwise it would be very hazardous.
